Buying safely
How do I buy or save an item?
Browse Marketplace to see items from students at your school. Tap an item to see its photos, price, condition, and general pickup area, then tap "Message Seller" to ask questions or arrange a meetup. Tap the ♡ on any item to save it — your Saved Items list keeps them in one place and updates automatically when an item becomes reserved, sold, or unavailable.
How do I stay safe in a Marketplace transaction?
Meet in a public campus spot, inspect the item before paying, and avoid deposits or paying sight-unseen. Never share passwords or verification codes. Importantly, Dormly does not process payments or guarantee any transaction — there's no escrow and Dormly never holds funds, so the exchange happens directly between you and the other student. Trust your instincts and report anything that feels off.
How does messaging a seller work?
Marketplace uses Dormly's existing messaging — there's a new "Marketplace" tab in Messages. Tapping "Message Seller" opens (or reuses) one conversation per buyer and item, so your chat about a given item stays in one thread. It's fully realtime, and blocking, reports, reactions, and file + location sharing all work just like elsewhere in Dormly.
